Each Sunday, we’ll review the week that’s just concluded and look at what’s coming up.
The past week was an eventful ones in terms of Middlesex Borough’s working relationship with federal agencies. A ceremony marking the municipality taking ownership of the former Middlesex Sampling Plant (MSP) property was held on Oct. 11. The following day, a quartet of borough officials held a Zoom meeting with two reps of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, seeking a solution to the Heather Lane erosion that threatens to dump two homes into a stream.
The first day went better than the second. Several dozen feds attended the MSP ceremony handing out plaques and munching on sandwiches. Also honored that day, was the work done by Claremont Development to construct a distribution center on nearby acreage.
Will there ever be another contamination issue at the MSP site? The feds would insist not, but only the future knows.
Based on the Zoom call, it seems the Army Corps is pretty much adamant they’re not dealing with the erosion issue, unless they get a dictate – and funding – from higher up. The project manager on the call noted that he does not have the authority to appropriate dollars. Meanwhile, frustrations grow in Middlesex over the Green Brook Flood Risk Management Project
