A new president and vice president were chosen, and three Middlesex Board of Education members sworn in to start three-year terms as the borough’s school board held its annual reorganization meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 3.
Danielle Parenti was elected unanimously by fellow board members to serve as president for 2024. There were no other nominations for board president.
Jeanette DeJesus was elected vice president over Elyse Robbins in a 5-4 vote.
The new leadership takes the helm of a board that has a $46.2 million budget for the current school year.

Parenti and DeJesus succeed Todd Nicolay and Patricia Reynolds, who served as president and vice president respectively during 2023.
Prior to the presidential and vice presidential balloting, Nicolay, Amelia Sherr and Amanda Bayachek were sworn-in to terms won in the November general election. They were the top vote-getters in a field of six candidates.

Sherr received the most votes with 1,139 followed by Bayachek with 1,112 and Nicolay with 1,024.
In other business, the board adopted the New Jersey School Boards Association Code of Ethics and approved a meeting schedule for the coming year. The reorganization was brief, lasting roughly a half-hour.
