Jack Costa, a Middlesex Borough first responder for the past five decades, will be honored as the seventh Pillar of Middlesex at the Borough Council’s Tuesday, Nov. 26 meeting.
The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at the Ronald S. Dobies municipal building on Mountain Avenue.
Mayor Jack Mikołajczyk and the council initiated the Pillars of Middlesex recognition earlier this year to honor those who have had longtime commitment to municipal and community organizations.

Costa (third from left in photo) has been a Middlesex Borough firefighter since 1974 when he joined H.C. Pierce Hose Co. Since 1996, he has also served as director of the Office of Emergency Management.
Costa has served various roles during his fire department service including: fire chief from 1989 through 1991, lieutenant, captain, 2nd assistant chief, 1st assistant chief, Middlesex Borough Fire Department treasurer for 13 years; Pierce Hose Co. treasurer for 40 years, safety officer and department training officer for six years.
“Jack has devoted his life to ensuring the safety of others through volunteer service, which is the backbone of the community, ensuring the future of Middlesex, thus allowing the borough to thrive and succeed,” reads a proclamation that will be issued to recognize Costa’s service.
Costa’s dedication and service have earned him prior honors such as the Outstanding Citizen Award (twice), the Mayor’s Medal in 2001, Elks Citizen of the Year in 2007 and the Distinguished Service Award in 2012.
Earliet recipients of Pillars of Middlesex recognition were: John and Sheila Fuhrmann, Ed Johnson, Jim Grimm, and Robert and Amelia Sherr.
